In the Know
Half Day/PD Day – On March 2nd, we will be having professional development starting by 12:45. We will be getting SBAC trained as well as finalizing our testing plan/schedule. You will need your laptops for this training.

Music Assembly - We will be having a music assembly on Friday, March 2 from 10:00 to 10:40. Teachers, please take attendance and then bring your class down to the auditorium.
KMS Track & Field - Kennedy Track Coaches are excited as we are gearing up for this years track season. Track packets are now available in the front office. Inside your packet there will be 3 forms that need to be returned to the front office. Also enclosed is our team expectations, a tentative calendar, and some information on our Papa's Pizza Fundraiser, April 18th(West 11th location). Track is a great sport to make new friends, try fun events, and stay in shape.
We understand that the spring is a very busy time of year for many families. We want to encourage all students to come out for track as it is our only school sponsored sport. We have many student/athletes who play multiple sports during the spring. We asks that students try and make at least one practice and keep Thursday's available as those are Track Meet days. There are also scholarships available. Please contact Victoria Miller in our front office, 541-790-5500.
We will be having an informational meeting for students on February 6th during first and second lunches in the library. At this meeting students can ask any questions they may have and get a general overview of the season. Our first practice is Wednesday, March 7th. We look forward to seeing everyone out on the 7th!! It is going to be an awesome season!!

Tutoring & class support – We are looking for people who are interested in helping support students in Math and Science. In addition, we would like to provide homework help after school from 3:40 to 4:30. If you are interested, please contact Victoria Miller in the front office. Note, per 4J district policy, anyone working with students is required to complete a background check.
ParentVUE - Stay Informed About Your Student’s Performance with the Free ParentVUE Website. With the Synergy ParentVUE web portal, parents can access near real-time information on assignments and scores, attendance, class schedules, discipline, conference visits, health office visits, immunization compliance, transcripts, graduation status and more. ParentVUE is a website that offers secure, private access to school and student information, including assignments, grades, attendance, school calendar, and teacher contact details. ParentVUE offers a single sign-on to view school information for all of the siblings, regardless of the grade level or school of attendance. While the website is accessible over the Internet, access is secured via a user name and password. Parents can see information about their children, only, and cannot see the records of other students. To create an account, you will need the web address and activation key provided by your student’s school. Please contact our registrar Melissa Brennan firstname.lastname@example.org for assistance.
Community Events & Programs
Building 4J’s Future: We want to hear from you.
The Eugene School District is holding a community conversation about a potential bond measure to improve school buildings and learning materials. Your input is needed!
Most of 4J’s school buildings were constructed in the 1940s to 1960s, and some are even older. Other capital improvements are needed due to changing enrollment, educational program needs and aging buildings and materials.
The district’s long-range facilities plan, updated in 2013 after significant community input, calls for bond measures in 2013 and 2018 to replace, renovate or remodel several school buildings and make other improvements.
Voters approved a bond measure in 2013 and replaced four aging school buildings—Roosevelt Middle School, Arts & Technology Academy, Howard Elementary School and River Road/El Camino del Río Elementary School—and made other building improvements, upgraded technology and curriculum, replaced school buses, and more.
The board is now considering a potential bond measure to be placed on the November 2018 ballot, and wants to hear from community members about their views on priorities and how to proceed. No decisions have been made yet.
Community forums have been scheduled in different locations across the district so community members may choose a convenient time and location. Spanish interpretation will be provided at the forums. The forum on the evening of Thursday, March 8 will be in Spanish.

Construyendo el futuro de 4J: Queremos escuchar de ustedes.
El distrito escolar de Eugene tendrá una conversación comunitaria sobre una posible medida de bono para mejorar las instalaciones escolares y materiales de aprendizaje. ¡Necesitamos su participación!
La mayoría de las instalaciones escolares de 4J se construyeron entre los años 1940-1960, y algunas son aún más viejas. Se necesita mejoría de capital debido a cambios de matrícula, necesidades del programa educacional y envejecimiento de instalaciones y materiales.
El plan de largo plazo del distrito, actualizado en el 2013 con bastante participación comunitaria, exige medidas de bono en el 2013 y 2018 para reemplazar, renovar o remodelar las instalaciones escolares junto con otras mejoras.
En el 2013 se aprobó la medida de bono y se reemplazaron instalaciones viejas en cuatro escuelas – Roosevelt Middle School (escuela intermedia de Roosevelt), Arts & Technology Academy (Academia de Arte y Tecnología), Howard Elementary School (escuela primaria de Howard) y River Road Elementary School (escuela primaria El Camino del Río) – y se realizaron otras mejoras de tecnología y currículo, buses escolares y mucho más.
Ahora el consejo está considerando una posible medida de bono para la votación de noviembre del 2018, y para proceder queremos saber de las opiniones y prioridades de la comunidad. No se ha tomado ninguna decisión todavía.
Se han programado foros comunitarios en diferentes locales en el distrito para que los miembros de la comunidad pueden escoger la hora y local más conveniente. Se proveerá interpretación en español.
