KMS Family Bulletin

Morgan_Christensen

Greetings KMS families,

Thank you to those who were able to attend out Back to School Social “Bash”. It was great to see so many families and students. I hope you were able to socialize and meet new people, take a tour of the school, and enjoy some dessert. I saw many of you later that evening for the CHS Friday night football game. There was great energy at that game and excitement with CHS winning the game.

Those of you who were not able to make the school social, rest assure we will be having other school events in the near future. I will be sure to communicate this with you and students. Below are several things to keep in mind when looking ahead to next week and thereafter.

Sept 18           Knight Family Association (KFA) 5:30-6:30pm, Library

Volunteers needed - Book Fair, Oct. 10/2 - 10/6 from 8:30am to 3:45pm. Other volunteer opportunities will be shared in future school newsletters. Volunteering is a great way to be connected to your student’s school and the Kennedy community. If you are interested, you are required to complete a volunteer background check application form: |click here|.

Canned Food and Toiletries Drive - This upcoming week, September 18 - 22, we will be collecting canned food items and toiletries for our students and families in need. There will be bins for students and families to drop off items. Thank you for any donation you are able to give.

Air Quality - We are still monitoring the air quality on a regular basis through the Lane Regional Air Protection Agency, LRAPA http://www.lrapa.org, which provides an hourly update of Eugene air quality. They take a reading on the hour and post updates on the half hour.

Free and Reduced Lunch - Please remember that if your student(s) was a part of the free or reduced lunch program last year, you must complete a new form in order to have the same status this year. If you qualified for Free or Reduced Meals last year, the Free and Reduced lunch forms will be mailed out in a packet with the district calendar to your homes. If you need a new form, please go to the 4J web site: http://www.4j.lane.edu/nutrition. Note: if you do not get this form completed at the start of the school year, your student(s) will return to full price status by October 3rd. Please remember that the district has 10 days from the date of receiving your application to process before the reduced status can apply. Extra copies, including forms for Spanish speakers, are available in our office. While these forms can be returned to the Kennedy office, processing will go more quickly if the forms are mailed directly to the district office at 200 North Monroe St., Eugene, OR, 97402

Families have 48 hours, or two school days, after the student’s return to school to request the absence(s) be excused. Be sure to leave a detailed message including your name, your student’s name, date of the absence and the reason for the absence. If your child will need to leave campus during the regular school day, please send a note to the office or leave a message on the Attendance Line before 9:00 am on the day of the absence. We will issue a yellow “Off-Campus Permit” to your student that will be shown to the teacher when it’s time to be picked up from the office. If you must pick up your student on short notice please allow a minimum of 30 minutes for the staff to prepare for this request. Note: A legal parent or guardian as documented in our student system must come to the office to sign out their student.
